Introduction

This help page explains the main options of Scale Visualizer.

General options

1) Frets

Control how many fretboard are displayed. Use it to adjust the practice range according to your instrument or exercise.

  • Electric guitar: 15–22 frets are usually enough to study patterns.
  • 4-string bass: sometimes it is comfortable to work with fewer visible frets.
Tip: if you are memorizing positions, limit to 12–15 frets and expand when you feel comfortable.

2) Tuning

Select the tuning of the instrument. By default: Standard (EADGBE) – 6-string guitar. Changing the tuning adapts all the notes of the fretboard.

Predefined/additional tunings: Drop D, Open G, 7-string (B–E–A–D–G–B–E), 4-string bass (E–A–D–G) and custom tunings.

Common uses: practice riffs in Drop D, explore resonances in Open G or work in low registers in 7-string.
Tuning
The fretboard is recalculated according to the selected tuning.

3) Mark same notes

Activate a highlight in all positions of the same note within the fretboard. It is ideal for locating tonics or important degrees of a scale.

  • Locate quickly all the tonics (degree 1) of your scale.
  • Useful for studying voicings and patterns along the fretboard.
Example: if your scale is in Do, activating this option will show all Do highlighted on the fretboard.

All occurrences of the selected note are highlighted.

Color panel

1) Select a color

  • Select a color in the color panel. Each color will represent a different scale/chord.
Tip: When using more than one note/scale on the guitar body, alternate the same colors between light and dark for better visual organization.
Highlight
This panel allows you to assign colors to scales and chords, facilitating visual organization.

2) Select note and scale type

After selecting the color, this menu will appear, you choose the root note and the scale type you want to load. The application will automatically place the notes on the fretboard according to the chosen key.

  • You have major, minor, pentatonic and modes.
  • The root defines the key (example: Do major, Mi minor).
  • You can also mark notes manually on the fretboard.

Fret Focus

With this tool you can focus on a specific part of the fretboard.

Use the two sliders:

Left slider: defines from which fret the visible range starts.

Right slider: marks the last fret you want to include in your range.

The frets that remain outside will be darkened with a transparent layer to focus only on the selected section.

This is useful when you want to:

  • Practice scales in a specific position.
  • Enfocarte en un patrón de acordes en un sector reducido del mástil.
  • Limit the diapason to study solos in a specific region.

Remember that you can move both sliders freely and change the focus range at any time.

Highlight

Chords

Below the fretboard you will find the chords configured for the scales. Each one is displayed with its name and associated color.

  • Click on the eye icon to show or hide the scale (or your custom creation) on the fretboard.
  • If you click on the name of the chord, direct editing on the fretboard is activated to modify the notes of that color.

This allows you to quickly alternate between scales and chords in the same progression.

Highlight

Guitar body

The main area of the application is the interactive fretboard. Here you will see all the strings and frets represented.

Mástil
  • Click on the left mouse button to mark or unmark a note.
  • With right-click you access extra functions (mark as tonic, change color, delete note).
  • The notes are displayed with the color you have selected in the color panel.

The tonic is usually marked with a highlighted style to identify the root of the scale.

Metronome

In the lower left corner of the application you will find the integrated metronome. It is used to accompany practice with a constant pulse.

  • Allows adjusting the speed in BPM (pulses per minute).
  • Configures the number of beats or subdivisions to practice in different rhythms.
  • It can be minimized or closed while it is still sounding, so it does not bother on the screen.

Use it to train scales, chords or progressions while always maintaining the tempo reference.
